Terry graduated from Ridgeview High School in 2011.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Orange Park.

“I grew up playing sports so I’ve always been a big believer in teamwork,” Terry said. “Learning to work together and building a culture where you trust other people is essential in the Navy. You have to be able to trust the people you work with to accomplish missions. I also learned leadership. In the military, it is important to know how to step up and communicate properly because everyone comes from different backgrounds and one leadership style will not be effective for every sailor.”

Terry joined the Navy 10 years ago. Today, Terry serves as a machinist’s mate.

“I joined the Navy initially to travel,” Terry said. “I wanted to travel, see the world and interact with new cultures.”

The U.S. Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday this year.

According to Navy officials, “America is a maritime nation and for 250 years, America’s Warfighting Navy has sailed the globe in defense of freedom.”

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Terry has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“My proudest accomplishment is winning Sailor of the Year for Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in 2022,” Terry said. “I am proud of that because it showed that my hard work paid off. It was an honor to be recognized for it and to be able to represent my command in a positive way.”

Terry serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“Serving in the Navy means a commitment,” Terry said. “For one, you have to be committed to bettering yourself to successfully carry out the mission. Commitment also helps you be a better dad and husband outside of the Navy.”

Terry. is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“First, I want to thank my wife, Kiaron,” Terry added. “She is also in the Navy and is a big support for me because she understands what I’m going through. We both support each other’s careers and help each other through any challenges we face. I also want to thank my parents, Anthony Terry Sr. and Cleo Terry, for being the best parents I could possibly ask for. They support me through everything and provided me with an upbringing where they guided me in the right direction to become responsible. Lastly, I want to thank my kids, Anthony Terry III, Aaron and Antonio, for making me a better dad and for all their support.”
