DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. (Nov. 11,
2017) – A Ghana, African, native who serves as the mobilization coordinator at
Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Atlanta was recently named the reserve center’s
full-time support Junior Sailor of the Year for 2017.
Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer Paul
Amedogbe was recognized for his exceptional performance throughout the year.
“As an E-5, Amedogbe runs the mobilization
program 99 percent of the time by himself,” said Boatswains Mate 1st Class
Joshua Maurer, Amedogbe’s leading petty officer.
“Mobilization is the primary mission of NOSC Atlanta, and he runs that program perfectly,” Maurer said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be put in that program.”
Amedogbe, came from Ghana, Africa to the United States in 2010 and joined the Navy soon after. He spent four
years with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 84 in Norfolk, Virginia, and has been
at NOSC Atlanta for two years.
Amedogbe said that he joined the Navy
because the military was something he always wanted to do; yet he was unaware
of all of the opportunities that the Navy would give him. Taking advantage of
one of those opportunities, he obtained a master’s degree in acquisition and
supply chain management from University of Maryland University College.
Amedogbe said he appreciated that his
leadership abilities were recognized by his chain of command, and he advised
other junior Sailors is to take advantage of whatever opportunities the Navy
gives them.
“Play roles that others won’t like to
play,” he said. “Just remember that your command is looking at you, no matter
what you are doing.”
