Cabo San Lucas native advanced to U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class

(FALLON, Nev.) - A 2014 Universidad del Golfo de California San Lucas, Mexico, High School graduate and Cabo San Lucas, Santos, Baja, California Sur, Mexico native, was advanced to U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class serving with Navy Munitions Command Pacific CONUS West Division Detachment (NMC DET) in Fallon, Nevada.

Petty Officer Karina Lucero Scigliano, who has currently served in the Navy for over two years, is an aviation ordnanceman responsible for the receipt, stowage, breakout, handling, testing, and assembly/disassembly of conventional ordnance in support of air wing operations.

Scigliano said she is very proud of accomplishing this short term goal.

"Studying hard every day paid off immensely and now I feel not only properly rewarded, but honored to have served for the past 25 months serving this country," said Scigliano. "Seeing how well I did on my test made me feel valuable and nonexpendable and it made me realize that I am here to learn and do great things with my military time."

"I am extremely thankful for the opportunities and recognition but overall, for the help that my command provided me with in the past and the support that I know will be undeniable for my future. Needless to say, I am grateful I joined the Navy," she added.

NMC DET Fallon, provides Integrated Tactical Air Warfare Training support to carrier air wing detachments, strike fighter advanced readiness program detachments, special warfare groups and resident commands.

Serving in the Navy, Scigliano is learning about being a more responsible leader, Sailor and person through handling numerous responsibilities.

"It definitely has improved my discipline every single day and provided me with opportunities to travel and learn things I never thought I would be capable of learning," she said. "Significantly, it has given me the chance to meet great people with experience in the military who are willing to teach and share their knowledge, which is both appreciated and motivating."

Scigliano's father and mother, James and Irma Scigliano, and aunt, Patricia Stutesman, all reside in Yorba Linda, California.

Her uncle, Franklin Scigliano, lives in Rio Vista, California.
