KITSAP, Wash. - Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael E. Cruz, a 2007 Mira Mesa High School graduate and San Diego, California, native, has been named Naval Base Kitsap Junior Sailor of the Year.
Cruz, currently serving in the Navy for five years, is an administrative assistant at Naval Base Kitsap, Washington.
Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork ethic, personal achievements and record of supporting and serving the community.
Naval Base Kitsap is the largest naval organization in Navy Region Northwest. It's mission is to serve as the host command for the Navy’s fleet throughout West Puget Sound and to provide base operating services, including support for both surface ships and submarines homeported at Bremerton and Bangor.
Cruz earned an associate's degree in 2013 from Miramar College, San Diego, California.
He is the son of Grace E. and Nick Cruz III of San Diego, California, and husband of Morgan Kate Aquino Santiago-Cruz of Bremerton, Washington.
