by Rick Burke, Navy Office of Community Outreach

NORFOLK, Va. - Navy Chief Warrant Officer Jerry E. Shenefield, a 1991 Southwood High School in Wabash, Indiana, graduate and La Fontaine, Indiana, native, assumes command as assistant security officer at Naval Station Norfolk.

Shenefield, serving for 28 years, said this opportunity allows him to lead and mentor junior sailors, which is the favorite part of his job.

"It’s also incredibly gratifying to provide security for the world’s largest Navy base, Naval Station Norfolk," Shenefield added.

Naval Station Norfolk supports the operational readiness of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, providing facilities and services to enable mission accomplishment. It's committed to safety, security, and continuous improvement in quality of life and quality of service for our Sailors and families.

Shenefield's father, Jerry Shenefield, resides in Indiana.
