(CSG) 10 congratulates Capt. William K. Shafley, (left),
Commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 26, at the
change of command  ceremony for DESRON26 aboard the

Capt. William Shafley relieved Capt. Christopher Inskeep and assumed duties as commander, DESRON 26 in a ceremony attended by distinguished visitors, family and crew.

Shafley graduated from Miami University in 1994. He assumed command of DESRON 26 following a tour as the DESRON’s deputy commodore. His command tours include commanding officer of USS Kaufman (FFG 59) and commanding officer, course lead, and curriculum director at Naval Leadership and Ethics Center.

“To the commanding officers, ships, and staff of Destroyer Squadron 26, I am inspired by you and your efforts,” Shafley said. “You are all first-rate people, we are going to have a lot of fun!”

Of Shafley, Inskeep said, “you are the right person with the skill set to take DESRON Two Six to greater heights and deployment.”

The squadron, he said, is, “getting one heck of an officer.”

Most recently, Shafley was mission commander aboard USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) in support of Operation Enduring Promise.

DESRON 26 is part of Carrier Strike Group 10, also known as the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, which includes the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Dwight D, Eisenhower (CVN 69), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers USS Monterey (CG 61), USS San Jacinto (CG 56), and USS Vella Gulf (CG 72); and the squadrons and staff of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3.
