SAN DIEGO - Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Steiner, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30.
Steiner graduated from Lakewood High School in 2020.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Cleveland.
“I grew up with a single mother,” said Steiner. “I learned from a young age to go with the flow and to never give up no matter how big the obstacle.”
Steiner joined the Navy four years ago. Today, Steiner serves as an aviation structural mechanic.
“I joined the Navy after realizing college was not for me,” said Steiner. “The Navy gave me a sense of belonging and a purpose to help others.”
Members of VRM 30 fly and maintain the CMV-22B Osprey, a vertical takeoff and landing tilt-rotor aircraft. VRM aircraft have increased operational range, faster cargo loading and unloading, increased survivability and enhanced communications compared to the C-2A Greyhound.
With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.
“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”
Steiner has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
“I am most proud to say that I have made the rank of petty officer 2nd class in under four years,” said Steiner. “I am also so proud to have learned so much and have been able to travel to Japan.”
Steiner serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.
“Serving in the Navy means that I am a part of something bigger than myself and have pride in my work every day,” said Steiner. “The Navy protects Americans at home and across the world while promoting peace at the same time.”
Steiner is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
“I would like to thank my mom, Karen, for always being there for me and supporting me in everything I do,” added Steiner.
