Diaz graduated from Castle Park High School in 2010.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in San Diego.

“San Diego has a lot of traffic so, growing up here, I learned to embrace the journey rather than just getting to my destination,” Diaz said. “I also learned that everyone has a different path towards happiness and success. Remembering that is important because not everyone will have the same path in the Navy but we can still all be successful.”

Diaz joined the Navy 13 years ago. Today, Diaz serves as a yeoman.

“I joined the Navy to create a better life for myself and my future family,” Diaz said. “Before I joined the military, I was going to school and working, but I did not see myself staying long term at that job.”

Naval Base Point Loma provides support to 70 U.S. Pacific Fleet commands headquartered on the base, including five nuclear-powered fast attack submarines. The base is also home to Cabrillo National Park and the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, which averages more than 1.2 million visitors annually.

The U.S. Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday this year.

According to Navy officials, “America is a maritime nation and for 250 years, America’s Warfighting Navy has sailed the globe in defense of freedom.”

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Diaz has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“I am most proud of earning my Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist pin in May of 2023 with the support of the family,” Diaz said. “I am proud of that because it took a lot of hard work to accomplish. I studied with my peers for almost three hours a day for weeks to earn it. I am thankful to Chief Sisson, Naval Aircrewman Operator 1st Class Carvalho, Naval Aircrewman Operator 2nd Class Flores, Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Spencer, Information Systems Technician 1st Class Hill and Yeoman 1st Class Chambers for helping me earn it.”

Diaz serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“I am proud to serve because the Navy provides me with a means to support my household,” Diaz said. “Additionally, I am thankful for the opportunity to serve because both my grandfather and father-in-law are retired Navy.”

Diaz is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I want to thank my wife, Aleli, for her endless love and support,” Diaz added. “I also want to thank my daughter, Audrey, for being there through thick and thin. Lastly, I want to thank my grandma, Emma, for her strength and guidance.”
