San Antonio Native Retires from U.S. Navy after 20 Years of Honorable Service

SAN DIEGO - A Luther Burbank High School graduate and San Antonio, native will retire from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of honorable service at a retirement ceremony scheduled on June 15.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Veronica Davila is a yeoman serving with Commander, Third Fleet, San Diego. As a yeoman, Davila performs office personnel administration, maintain records and official publications, and perform administrative functions for legal proceedings.

Upon graduating from high school, Davila immediately joined the Navy in July 1998. She received Recruit and Seamanship training at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, IL from July - October 1998. Her first duty assignment in November 1998 was Naval Base Pascagoula, Mississippi – Port Operations, shortly after advancing to Yeoman Third Class, she attended Yeoman training in Meridian, Mississippi.

After graduating Yeoman A school, she received orders to USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) Operations Administrative Department. During her tour onboard TRUMAN she qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Aviation Warfare Specialist; she was also promoted to Yeoman Second Class; thereafter – assuming the duties as the Leading Petty Officer of Operations Administrative Department.

In 2003, she returned to RTC Great Lakes as a Physical Fitness Instructor for over 135,000 recruits and earned her Master Training Specialist qualification.

Davila then transferred to PCU STERETT (DDG 104) in 2006. She was advanced to Yeoman First Class and held the positions of Ships Secretary and Administrative Leading Petty Officer, she was also the Secretary of the First Class Petty Officer Association, a member of the Damage Control Training, Sexual Assault Prevention, and Diversity Teams.

In 2011, she received orders to U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF), where she worked for Mr. Al Gonzalez, Senior Executive Service (SES2), as the Flag Writer and N1 Administrative Leading Petty Officer. She was then hand-selected to serve as the Assistant Flag Writer to Admiral Harvey and Admiral Gortney, USFF. She was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in September 2012. After three years, she attended Yeoman C School and was then hired by RADM Richard Berkey, USFF, Atlantic Fleet Maintenance (N43).

Her Flag Writer duties continued as she was hired by VADM Nora Tyson, U.S. THIRD Fleet (C3F), San Diego, CA in 2015. At C3F she supervised a Mentorship program and developed and implemented a monthly training curriculum ensuring Sailors received proper one-on-one time with their Mentor; and peer group sessions assisting their personal and professional development. Currently she works for VADM John Alexander, U.S. THIRD Fleet, as his Flag Writer.

Third Fleet plans and executes naval operations in the Pacific Ocean. The fleet provides maritime homeland defense, regional security, and humanitarian operations support through integrated naval and coastguard forces acting as a single Sea Service.

Davila’s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), and various command award.
