Johnson City Native Named Ship's Sailor of the Year

by Ensign W. Kirk Wolff, USS Paul Hamilton Public Affairs Officer

SAN DIEGO - Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Morgan Stout, a 2012 Daniel Boone High School graduate and native of Johnson City, Tennessee, was named 2018 Sailor of the Year for her outstanding performance serving aboard USS Paul Hamilton.

Stout, an aegis fire controlman, is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the ship’s advanced AEGIS combat system, including its RADARs, computer networks, and missiles.

To be named Sailor of the Year, sailors must exhibit superior performance and personal conduct well above that of their peers.

Of the honor, Stout said, “I am very proud to have been named Sailor of the Year. We have such an outstanding crew that it means a lot to be recognized in this way.”

Stout deployed to the Middle East with Paul Hamilton in 2015. Her next duty station is Navy Recruiting District Pittsburgh, where she will serve as a Navy Recruiter.

Stout is the daughter of Jennifer and Wayne Stout, who both served in the Navy.

Homeported in San Diego, Paul Hamilton is the tenth Arleigh Burke Class AEGIS guided missile destroyer and is one of the most sophisticated and capable warships in the world. Destroyers are capable of sustained combat operations supporting forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence. These combatants operate in a network centric warfare environment and execute multi-mission tasking including ballistic missile defense, anti-air, surface, antisubmarine, and cyber warfare.
