BREMERTON, Wash. - Navy Capt. Richard G. Rhinehart, a native of Ellsworth, Ohio, recently assumed the role as commanding officer of Naval Base Kitsap (NBK), Bremerton, Washington.

Rhinehart, a 1988 graduate of Western Reserve High School in Berlin Center, Ohio, relieved Capt. Alan Schrader at a change of command ceremony held at NBK-Bangor, Aug. 16.

Rhinehart, who has 25 years of Naval service, assumes command of NBK Washington immediately following his assignment as Assistant Chief of Staff for Partnership and Civil-Military Cooperation, NATO Allied Maritime Command, Northwood, United Kingdom.

NBK Washington is the largest naval organization in Navy Region Northwest. It's mission is to serve as the host command for the Navy’s fleet throughout West Puget Sound and to provide base operating services, including support for both surface ships and submarines homeported at Bremerton and Bangor.

Rhinehart graduated from the Miami of Ohio University in 1992 with a bachelor's of science and graduated in 1994 from the University of Michigan with a master's of science in engineering.

Rhinehart's parents, Richard and Audrey Rhinehart, both reside in Canfield, Ohio.
