Defuniak Springs Native Promoted to Navy Chief Petty Officer

NORFOLK, VA (NSN) – A Defuniak Springs, Florida, native and Marianna High School graduate was promoted to the rank of Navy chief petty officer.

Navy Chief Travis Manton is a boatswain’s mate assigned to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, Virginia. He is responsible training, directing, and supervising personnel in ship's maintenance duties in all activities relating to marlinespikes, decks, boat seamanship, painting, upkeep of ship's external structure, rigging, deck equipment, and life boats and performing seamanship tasks.

Chief Manton joins 16 other MARMC Sailors who earned their chief anchors, a milestone in a Sailor’s career and a prestigious tradition that goes back 126 years.

MARMC is home to more than 1,500 Sailors who provide surface ship maintenance, management and oversight of private sector maintenance and fleet technical assistance to ships in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States and support the 5th and 6th fleet areas of responsibilities.
