FALLON, Nev. - Petty Officer 1st Class Jakob Danyel Parks, a 2005 graduate of Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester, Connecticut, and native of Enfield, Connecticut, was selected as 2019 Sailor of the Year serving with Navy Munitions Command Pacific CONUS West Division, Detachment (NMCPAC CWD DET) Fallon, Nevada.

"I am very proud of accomplishing this goal," said Parks. "Studying and working hard every day paid off immensely and now I feel not only properly rewarded, but honored to have served for the past seven years and keep serving the country."
"I am extremely thankful for the opportunities and recognition but overall for the help that my command provided me with in the past and the support that I know will be undeniable for my future," added Parks. "Needless to say, I am grateful I joined the Navy."
Parks serves at NMCPAC CWD DET Fallon as an aviation ordnanceman.

"Petty Officer Parks is the most skilled ordnanceman I have ever observed," said Cmdr. Jason B. Parmley, officer in charge of NMCPAC CWD DET Fallon. "His extraordinary performance this past year and significant, lasting contributions to Detachment Fallon’s impressive mission accomplishments have verified his status as a gifted leader and stand-out ordnanceman. His tireless and extremely hard working nature are an invaluable asset to the entire Fleet and played a major role in the success of every ordnanceman and command making their way through ORDNANCE TOWN USA! His combined talents as a leader, manager, and technician far exceed those normally exhibited in a Petty Officer 1st Class and were the key factors in his selection as NMCPAC CWD DET Fallon’s Sailor of the Year."

"Serving in the Navy definitely has improved my discipline every single day and provided me with opportunities to travel and learn things I never thought I would be capable of learning," said Parks. "It's given me the chance to meet great people with experience in the military who are willing to teach and share their knowledge, which is both appreciated and motivating."
Parks' father, Alton Waldo Parks, mother, Celese Martin Parks, and grandmother, Eloise Wrobel, all reside in Enfield, Connecticut. His sister, Emmah Louise Parks, lives in Worcester, Massachusetts.
