The Littoral Combat Ship Squadron Two Sailor in the Spotlight for the month of December is Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert Sanchez!
As an engineman on the LCS platform, Sanchez from Orlando, Florida, operates, repairs and performs maintenance on Fairbanks Morse Pielstick and Isotta Fraschini diesel engines. Also he will be engaged in the new roll of Rolls-Royce Marine MT-30 Gas Turbines. Enginemen will be key players on the aspects of the LCS life as they work on systems throughout the ship affecting the entire crew to include Air Conditioning, potable water and galley equipment.
Sanchez qualified basic damage control and is now helping to train other sailors in that field. He is working diligently on Inport Equipment Monitor. He has proven to have the knowledge to stand the duties as Fuel and Lube Oil King on the ship.
Sanchez volunteered to go to search and rescue school and passed in Mar. 19, then volunteered again to go temporarily assigned to San Diego on the USS Charleston (LCS 18) as SAR swimmer for and underway to Hawaii. While on board he was able to provide leadership and knowledge helping repair the priming pump for the lube oil system and replacing the filters on the Hydraulic unit steering pump. He also assisted the watch sections by standing extra watch and Oil King underway.
“Petty Officer Sanchez is a great leader and I have no doubt he will leave the ship as a chief. Sanchez has been nonstop since checking on board,” says Senior Chief Engineman Christopher Richars, his supervisor. “His work ethic is constant and he is always willing to do more.”
Sanchez’s favorite part about being an engineman in the LCS community is, “experiencing the challenges and rewards of a new ship.”
We salute EN2 Robert Sanchez and all that he has continues to do for the LCS community!
