OKINAWA, Japan - Olympio "Oly" Magofna, from Tanapag Village, Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, has been Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa (CFAO) emergency management officer (EMO) since joining CFAO in July 2016.
As EMO, Magofna is responsible for the establishment, implementation, and sustainment of a comprehensive all-hazard emergency management program in order to prepare for and mitigate the potential effects of, respond to, and recover from natural or man-made emergencies impacting CFAO and its tenant commands spread out over Okinawa.
On Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, Magofna was honored as the CFAO U.S. Civil Service Employee of the Year for Fiscal Year 2020.
“I found the ultimate satisfaction and appreciation of my job as the EMO is making absolutely certain that I've provided and delivered the best preparedness training to our base population necessary, which is essential to saving lives, reducing human sufferings and protecting property in an emergency,” said Magofna.
CFAO's mission is to maintain and operate facilities and provide services and material support to operations of aviation activities and units of the operating forces of the Navy, designated by the Chief of Naval Operations. CFAO provides and coordinates provisions and logistics support for fleet units on Okinawa and services as tasked by higher authority.
