MILLINGTON, Tenn. – A native of Tampa, Florida, is serving aboard USS Carl Vinson, a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.
"We build up bombs and mines, and stow and overlook all ordnance on board," said Chandler. "We also attach and arm bombs and missiles to aircraft prior to flight. Additionally, we upkeep magazines on board to safely stow ammunition."
Chandler joined the Navy three years ago for the opportunities serving provides.
"I wanted to explore the world and serve my part for the country," said Chandler.
According to Chandler, the values required to succeed in the military are similar to those found in Tampa.

"I learned to be patient with people," said Chandler. "It could be as simple as teaching a new check-in how to do maintenance or letting departments, such as Personnel and Medical, help you with personnel issues knowing they have to help the rest of the ship as well."
Carl Vinson is named in honor of Georgia Congressman Carl Vinson. Vinson was the first to serve a 50-year term and earned the nickname “The Father of the Two Ocean Navy" based on his push to increase funding for naval power. This paved the way for expanding the United States Navy.
According to Navy officials, aircraft carriers support and operate aircraft that engage in attacks on airborne, afloat and ashore targets that threaten free use of the sea and engage in sustained power projection operations in support of U.S. and coalition forces.
Chandler's favorite part of working in the Navy is meeting new people around the ship.
"Whether it be at the gym, after work events by ship associations or even in the mess decks," added Chandler. It makes it a home away from home."
Though there are many opportunities for sailors to earn recognition in their command, community and careers, Chandler is most proud of two accomplishments.
"I am most proud of passing the E-5 exam so early in my career and getting to meet the Ukrainian president during a visit to Odessa during the Sea Breeze Excercise in 2019," said Chandler.
As a member of the U.S. Navy, Chandler, as well as other sailors, know they are a part of a service tradition providing unforgettable experiences through leadership development, world affairs and humanitarian assistance. Their efforts will have a lasting effect around the globe and for generations of sailors who will follow.
"Serving in the Navy means knowing what I do directly correlates to protecting U.S. waters, as well as other allied nations, to make the world we live in more peaceful, or at least prevent any conflicts," added Chandler.
