Bush, a 2017 Prattville High School graduate, joined the Navy two years ago.

“I joined the Navy because I was bored working retail and felt like I had no purpose,” said Bush.

Skills and values similar to those found in Prattville are important to succeed in the military.

“My English teacher taught us, ‘if you want to be remembered, you have to be the first’,” said Bush. “Well, I'm the first person in my family to join the Navy.”

With 90 percent of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to trained sailors and a strong Navy.

"Our mission remains timeless - to provide our fellow citizens with nothing less than the very best Navy: fully combat ready at all times, focused on warfighting excellence, and committed to superior leadership at every single level," said Adm. Mike Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations. "This is our calling. And I cannot imagine a calling more worthy.”

As a member of the Navy, Bush is part of a world-class organization focused on maintaining maritime dominance, strengthening partnerships, increasing competitive warfighting capabilities and sustaining combat-ready forces in support of the National Defense Strategy.

“Submarines contribute to national defense by keeping our borders safe,” said Bush.

As Bush and other sailors continue to train and perform missions, they take pride in serving their country in the United States Navy.

“The Navy gives me a sense of purpose and a steady paycheck,” added Bush. “It also has given me the chance to become independent and travel.”

Bush is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I'd like to thank my granddad,” said Bush. “He was a Purple Heart veteran and he took me to the recruiting station. He encouraged me to join.”

Bush added a piece of advice for those who may be considering a career in the Navy.

“If you're considering the Navy, Just do it,” added Bush. “It's worth it.”
