MILLINGTON, Tenn. - A native of Laguna Hills, California, was recently promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class serving aboard the U.S. Navy warship, USS Boxer, operating out of San Diego, California.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Emma Jones, a 2017 graduate of Laguna Hills High School, joined the Navy three years ago.

"I was meritoriously promoted for being the lead petty officer of the medical laboratory and blood bank, as well for being a well-rounded corpsman and sailor," said Jones.

Today, Jones serves as a hospital corpsman (HM) responsible for providing outpatient medical care to active-duty military personnel, military retirees and their family members.

"Being appointed to HM2 means all the literal blood, sweat and tears I've experienced in this job have paid off," said Jones. "I'm thankful for the acknowledgment. I'm most thankful for my family, boyfriend and friends as my support system and God for this amazing opportunity. I will use my new rank to continue being an example of one of many successful strong, poised and brave women in the military."

Boxer is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship and the sixth U.S. ship to bear the name of the original HMS Boxer, which was captured by the British during the War of 1812.

Amphibious assault ships transfer Marines, equipment and supplies and can support helicopters or other aircraft. Boxer’s crew is made up of approximately 1,200 crewmembers and can accommodate up to 1,800 Marines.

As Jones and other sailors continue to train and perform missions, they take pride in serving their country in the U.S. Navy.
