MILLINGTON. Tenn. – A sailor from South Hill, Anguilla, was recently recognized for their work while serving the U.S. Navy assigned to USS Boxer.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Erian Lewis, a 2019 graduate of Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, was named Golden Gator of the Day.

Lewis managed all of Boxer’s tactical air control center documents and publications for effective air traffic control planning.

“Being named Golden Gator on board the USS Boxer came with countless hours updating and managing over 200 documents as well as enduring blood, sweat and tears with our Marine counterparts while training to be an ERT member,” said Lewis. “It may seem like hard work goes unnoticed but there is always someone watching and it sure feels good to get recognized. I aspire to be a role model for all TACRONs and for other trailblazers.”

Lewis joined the Navy more than two years ago. Today, Lewis serves as an air traffic controller.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Lewis serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

Boxer is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship and the sixth U.S. ship to bear the name of the original HMS Boxer, which was captured by the British during the War of 1812.

Amphibious assault ships transfer Marines, equipment and supplies and can support helicopters or other aircraft. Boxer’s crew is made up of approximately 1,200 crewmembers and can accommodate up to 1,800 Marines.

As Lewis and other sailors continue to train and perform missions, they take pride in serving their country in the U.S. Navy.
