Sailor wishes grandmother in Guam a happy Mother’s Day

By Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Keith Nowak

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Corpez, a native of Toto, Guam, serving in the United States Navy wishes their Grandma, Adoration Blas, in Toto, a happy Mother’s Day.

Sailors help maintain America’s advantage at sea. This means they do not always get to celebrate holidays with their loved ones. Corpez wants their grandma to know they are missed this Mother’s Day.

“I’m doing well and I miss you every day,” said Corpez. “Sorry for not always calling or texting, but we’ve been doing many great things. No matter how far away, I’ll always be your grandson.”

Corpez serves as a fire controlman (aegis) aboard the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, USS Carney, operating out of Naval Station Mayport, Florida.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Corpez serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Corpez can take pride in serving America through military service.

“The ability to help others, serve our country, and the people around me, is what serving in the Navy means to me,” added Corpez. “Everyone goes through hard times, and I just want to make that better.”
