MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian McCallister, a native of Florence, South Carolina, serves at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples, in Italy.

McCallister graduated from South Florence High School in 2009.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Florence.

"The top three lessons that I've taken from home and applied during my time in the Navy are having a strong work ethic, humility, and staying with God," said McCallister.

McCallister joined the Navy seven years ago.

"I joined the Navy to have a better opportunity to travel the world and I'm doing just that," said McCallister. "So far, I've visited 16 different countries."

Today, McCallister serves as a culinary specialist.

"What I enjoy most about my job is being impactful," said McCallister. "Everything about my job is boosting morale for all sailors and Marines."

According to Navy officials, McCallister's leadership initiative fostered the professional and personal growth of all unaccompanied housing members of the staff. Additionally, McCallister positively impacts all departmental personnel with a 'can-do' attitude that inspires his peers to give back to the community and command.

Host to more than 50 separate commands and about 8,500 personnel, NSA Naples is an operational ashore base that enables U.S., allied and partner nation forces to be where they are needed, when they are needed to ensure security and stability in Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

McCallister serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

McCallister has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

"My proudest accomplishment in the Navy is seeing sailors that I've mentored receive recognition and promotions," said McCallister.

McCallister can take pride in serving America through military service.

"Serving in the Navy means answering the call that protects the people I love," added McCallister.
