Martinezsandoval graduated from Hilltop High School in 2004.
Martinezsandoval joined the Navy three years ago. Today, Martinezsandoval serves as an aviation maintenance administrationman.
“I joined the Navy for my family and to prove a point to my son that if I could join the military at my age, then so could he,” said Martinezsandoval. "I wanted to inspire him to join and lead him by example, so I enlisted in the Navy just a few days after quitting my job."
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in San Diego.
“Growing up I learned that I wanted to be better than where I started out from,” said Martinezsandoval. "I was raised in a foster system and did not have the best parents. I raised myself a lot and wanted to lead a better life than I came from."
According to Navy officials, members of VRM-30 fly and maintain the CMV-22B Osprey, a vertical takeoff and landing tilt-rotor aircraft. VRM aircraft have increased operational range, faster cargo loading and unloading, increased survivability and enhanced communications compared to the C-2A Greyhound.
With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.
Martinezsandoval serves a Navy that operates forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.
“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”
Martinezsandoval has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
“I am most proud of advancing from airman recruit all the way to petty officer second class,” said Martinezsandoval. "If I didn't have that work ethic, I would not have made it. I was the first one in the door and the last one out."
Martinezsandoval can take pride in serving America through military service.
“Serving in the Navy means being part of something bigger than myself,” said Martinezsandoval. "I live just two blocks from where I grew up and so to be where I am today truly is an honor."
Martinezsandoval is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.“I would like to thank my wife, Alex, and Chief Baize,” added Martinezsandoval. "My wife has provided such continued support to me, and Chief Baize has trained me and kept me on track for advancement."
