MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Airman Alexa Ackerman, a native of Bonneau, South Carolina, was recently recognized as the Warfighter of the Day aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington.Warfighter of the Day is a command program where the ship’s captain personally recognizes an exemplary sailor for their accomplishments.
Ackerman was selected by leadership for this honor for completing 170 work orders which encompassed 262.5 man hours. Additionally, while serving as the training petty officer, Ackerman managed 22 work center training records, ensuring qualifications and certifications were maintained properly.
Ackerman joined the Navy one year and four months ago.
"I joined the Navy because I wanted to travel and work with aircraft," said Ackerman.
Today, Ackerman serves as an aviation ordnanceman.
Aircraft carriers, such as USS George Washington, project power and presence worldwide by serving as the cornerstone of a Carrier Strike Group and launching and landing various types of aircraft.
The ship’s motto is “First in War, First in Peace”.
