GULFPORT, Miss. - Since 1942, sailors assigned to the U.S. Navy’s Construction Force have been building and fighting around the world. Constructionman Recruit Logan Walker, a Bradford, Pennsylvania, native is one of those sailors.
Walker is a steelworker currently serving with Naval Construction Training Center at the headquarters for naval construction forces in Gulfport, Mississippi, that serves as a home base for the Atlantic Fleet Seabees.
Walker graduated from Bradford Area High School in 2024.
Walker joined the Navy less than a year years ago.
“I joined the Navy to serve my country and be a part of something bigger than myself," said Walker.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Bradford.
“Growing up in Bradford, taught me several important life lessons but most importantly, it taught me to have a strong work ethic,” said Walker. "Watching everyone in the small town of Bradford produce so many different things, like lighters, knives and refining oil, showed me what hard work looks like from a young age."
With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.
Walker serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.
“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”
Walker has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
“My proudest accomplishment is when I ate breakfast with the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy and I inherited some of his wisdom,” said Walker.
Walker can take pride in serving America through military service.
“Serving in the Navy means a great deal to me,” said Walker. "Getting the opportunity to become a Seabee is a great honor."
Walker is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
“I would like to thank my mom, Sara Fox, and stepdad, Jeff Fox,” added Walker. "They're the hardest working people I've ever met. Without them, I would not have had so many opportunities to chase my dreams."
