San Gabriel native to graduate from Officer Candidate School

By Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Isaiah M. Williams, Navy Office of Community Outreach

Millington, Tenn. - Ensign Jordan Mark, a native of San Gabriel, California, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to Naval Air Station Pensacola.

Mark graduated from Loyala Marymount University in 2016.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in San Gabriel.

“Growing up I learned not everyone is created equally, some people are smarter faster and stronger,” said Mark. "For those of us that aren't, we just have to work that much harder to compete if you find yourself banging your head against a brick wall you may not need a new approach, just a harder head."

Mark joined the Navy four years ago. Today, Mark serves as a officer.

“I have been presented the opportunity that few will receive to fly and carry out combat operations as a member of the United States Navy,” said Mark. "I chose to serve because I am willing and able if not me then who will preserve the freedom we all enjoy for generations to come."

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Mark serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Mark has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“Graduating from Ocs is a culmination of all the effort that I have put into getting to the point. This gold bar that I will wear is a piece of my uniform that many who serve will work years to obtain,” said Mark. "Now it is my turn, this makes the beginning of a new chapter with new skills, challenges, and opportunities to serve.

Mark can take pride in serving America through military service.

“Serving in the Navy in the capacity that I have been granted gives me a chance to fight to defend the lives of my family,” said Mark. "That family also extends to the people I served with as enlisted prior to my commission. there is no greater honor than being able to put myself at the point of friction to clear contested air space for my friends on the ground in a combined arms effort."

Mark is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
