MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Petty Officer 3rd Class Kennadi Gordon, a native of Beaufort, South Carolina, serves with U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Rota, Spain.
Gordon is a 2022 graduate of Whale Branch Early College High School. Additionally, Gordon is a graduate of Technical College of the Lowcountry.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Beaufort.
"Growing up in my hometown taught me to take pride in doing my part and to never back down from a challenge," Gordon said. "That foundation helped me adapt quickly, stay grounded and support my team no matter where we are stationed."
Gordon joined the Navy two years ago.
"I joined the Navy because my mom served, and I've always looked up to her," Gordon said. "Seeing her strength, discipline and pride in wearing the uniform inspired me to follow in her footsteps. I wanted to carry on that legacy and make a difference the way she did."
Today, Gordon serves as a hospital corpsman and pharmacy technician.
"My favorite part about being a pharmacy tech in the Navy is the unique combination of clinical responsibility and service," Gordon said. "I love knowing that the work I do, whether it's preparing medications, managing inventory or supporting patient care, directly impacts the health and readiness of our sailors and marines. It's incredibly rewarding to be part of a medical team that supports both day-to-day operations and mission around the world. Plus, the Navy has given me the chance to grow professionally in ways I never imagined, from leadership opportunities to working in diverse environments."
According to Navy officials, NMRTC’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high-quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research.
NMRTC Rota serves as a force multiplier in Navy Medicine’s strategic global medical support mission throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East while also supporting operational readiness and maintaining a strategic repository of expertise at the Naval Hospital Rota Military Treatment Facility within the Iberian Peninsula.
Navy Medicine – represented by more than 44,000 highly-trained military and civilian health care professionals – provides enduring expeditionary medical support to the warfighter on, below, and above the sea, and ashore.
The U.S. Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday this year.
According to Navy officials, “America is a maritime nation and for 250 years, America’s Warfighting Navy has sailed the globe in defense of freedom.”
With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.
Gordon has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
"My biggest accomplishment in the Navy so far is being selected as 'Matador of the Month' by my department," Gordon said.
Gordon serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.
"Being in the Navy means being part of something greater than myself," Gordon added. "It's about serving with purpose, discipline, and pride, and knowing that every role, no matter how big or small, contributes to the mission and the safety of our country."
