Towery graduated from St. Stephens High School in 2018. Additionally, Towery is working towards a bachelor's degree in health science from the American Military University and is expected to graduate this year.
Towery also hopes to take advantage of Baylor University’s military-graduate commissioning program and become a physical therapist.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Hickory.
“I learned growing up that all you have is your name,” Towery said. “It’s important to be true to yourself and never forget where you come from.”
Towery joined the Navy seven years ago. Today, Towery serves as an engineman.
“I joined the Navy to travel, get an education, gain life experience and to serve my country,” Towery said.
ATG San Diego plays a crucial role in maintaining a highly trained and prepared naval force, contributing to the US Navy's ability to respond to various threats and carry out diverse missions. ATG San Diego's role extends to evaluating and certifying all Pacific Fleet ships to ensure they meet the evolving standards required for naval and joint combat operations.
Towery has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
“I’m proud to have earned my Engineering Officer of the Watch qualifications as a second class petty officer aboard my first ship,” Towery said. “I’m also proud to go on board ships to train and mentor junior sailors so that we can certify these ships to support operational commitments in the fleet.”
Towery serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.
"I joined the Navy be a part of something bigger than myself,” Towery said. "It gives me honor and pride to serve my country."
Towery is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
“I'd like to thank my mom for always believing in me and pushing me to be my best,” Towery said. “I’d also like to thank my brother and sister for always having my back. I want to thank my dad as well for all the sacrifices he has made to take care of me.”
This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.
According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.
