MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Petty Officer 1st Class Claudyn El Dirani, whose parents reside in Ocala, Florida, was recently named Navy Personnel Command’s Junior Sailor of the Year.

Junior Sailor of the Year is an award given to an enlisted sailor who demonstrates sustained superior performance, leadership and professionalism.

“Being recognized as Junior Sailor of the Year means earning the trust and respect of my leadership, peers and sailors through consistent hard work, integrity and commitment to the mission,” El Dirani said. “It reflects not just my individual achievement, but the strength of the team I serve with and the standards that we set. To me, it represents accountability, growth and the responsibility to continue leading by example.”

El Dirani joined the Navy five years ago.

“I decided to join the Navy after seeing the dedication and commitment of my friends in the service, who inspired me to follow a similar path,” El Dirani said.

Today, El Dirani serves as a hospital corpsman assigned to Navy Personnel Command (NPC) in Millington, Tennessee.

NPC’s mission is to leverage an inspirational culture to man the fleet with ready sailors to allow America’s Navy to assure mission success and deliver an unprecedented quality of service for sailors to thrive in a life-changing experience.

El Dirani has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“While being recognized as NPC Sailor of the Year and earning the John D. Port Journeyman Award are accomplishments I am deeply proud of, my greatest pride comes from serving alongside an exceptional team,” El Dirani said.

El Dirani serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“Serving in the Navy means being part of something greater than myself,” El Dirani said. “It means upholding a standard of excellence, leading with integrity and remaining committed to the mission and my shipmates. To me, service is about sacrifice, accountability and ensuring that I contribute to the strength and readiness of the team every day.”

This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber-optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

El Dirani is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I’d like to give a special thank you to my mom, my dad and my friends back home,” El Dirani said. “Their constant support, encouragement, and belief in me have played a huge role in my success. Knowing they’re behind me every step of the way motivates me to keep striving to be better.”
