GULFPORT, Miss. — Army Specialist Clayton Seigler, a native of Lexington, South Carolina, is currently training with U.S. Navy Seabees in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Seigler graduated from River Bluff High School in 2024.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the military are similar to those found in Lexington.
“I learned that the effort I invest is directly proportional to the results I achieve, a principle that holds true in both athletics and military service,” Seigler said. “From playing sports in high school I learned that the hard work I put in is what I get out. The Army is the same, where hard work unveils great outcomes.”
Seigler joined the Army two years ago. Today, Seigler serves as a carpentry and masonry specialist.
“I joined the Army to pursue higher education and challenge my personal limits,” Seigler said. “I joined the Army for the education benefits and to better myself. I wanted to push myself and felt that the Army was a great way to do that.”
Navy Seabees, formally known as naval construction forces, provide a wide range of construction in support of operating forces, including roads, bridges, bunkers, airfields and logistics bases. Additionally, they provide responsive support for disaster recovery operations, perform civic action projects to improve relations with other nations, and provide anti-terrorism and force protection for personnel and construction projects.
Seigler has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.
“I take immense pride in graduating from basic training, recognizing it as a milestone that requires a level of resilience not everyone possesses,” Seigler said. “Graduating was a huge accomplishment for me because it wasn't easy. It's something that not a lot of people can say they’ve done, but I put in the work and I finished.”
Seigler serves a military that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.
“I view my service as a personal commitment to honoring my roots and building a foundation for my future success,” Seigler said. “It gives me a sense of pride and allows me to make the people and my family from my hometown proud as well. Being in the military is a great stepping stone that helps me achieve my long-term goals.”
This year, the military is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.
Seigler is grateful to others for helping make a military career possible.
“I recognize that the continued love and support of my parents has been the primary engine behind my military career,” Seigler said. “I want to thank my parents for the love and support they give me. Not only when I first joined, but for their continuing love and support as I move forward in my career.”
