White graduated from Central High School in 2022.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Carrollton.

“No matter what comes your way, roll with it,” White said. “My dad and grandfather are Marines, so they instilled that resiliency in me from a young age, which translated to the Navy.”

White joined the Navy four years ago. Today, White serves as a gunner’s mate.

“There weren’t a lot of opportunities in my town that I would have benefited from,” White said. “The Navy allowed me to escape that and lets me see the world, meet new people, provide stability, and direction.”

White has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“My proudest accomplishment in the Navy was shooting the shot line for the vertical launching system during an underway replenishment,” Chubb said. “It was by far one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.”

This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. For more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.

“Serving in the Navy means living up to the reputation and standard my father and his father set,” Chubb said. “They are Marines. I grew up with a strong sense to serve my country and look out for my brothers and sisters in arms.”

White is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I would like to thank my dad for pushing me to join the Navy,” White said. “I had a lot of growing up to do, and he wanted me to join a branch that would help me grow and mold me into a leader.”

White carries a quote with him as he continues to serve.

“In the words of the great Lemmy Kilmister: ‘Born to lose, live to win,’” White said. “It is a quote that sticks with me because I feel I wasn’t born so lucky or with many opportunities, so I had to work hard and live every day to win.”

Chosin plays a crucial role in projecting power and maintaining presence for naval forces. It provides advanced air defense, maritime security and long-range strike capabilities, often acting as the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Commander (IAMDC) for a carrier strike group. It supports global maritime security, counter-piracy operations and theater security cooperation.

This ship is the first Navy warship named in commemoration of the First Marine Division’s breakout from an enemy encampment at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. The 1950 engagement is recognized by historians as one of the most hard-fought battles of the conflict. Chosin’s crew is made up of approximately 375 officers and enlisted personnel.

Chosin is part of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9, a multiplatform group of ships and aircraft, capable of carrying out a wide variety of missions around the globe. Chosin is currently underway in the 3rd Fleet area of responsibility, conducting operations to bolster strike group readiness and effectiveness.
