Chubb graduated from Hesperia High School in 2012.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Millsap.
“I learned that hard work pays off,” Chubb said. “My dad and grandfather are Marines, so they instilled that value in me from a young age, which translated to the Navy.”
Chubb joined the Navy 13 years ago. Today, Chubb serves as a culinary specialist.
“Out of high school, I wanted to do something more than work a traditional job,” Chubb said. “The Navy lets me travel and see the world, meet new people and experience more than I ever could if I were to stay home.”
Chubb has had many accomplishments during his military service.
“My proudest accomplishment in the Navy was finding people who support me,” Chubb said. “In the Navy, people come from all walks of life, so finding people who lift you up and support you is an accomplishment in and of itself.”
This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.
“Serving in the Navy means everything to me,” Chubb said. “I joined out of high school, so it’s all I’ve ever known. It allows me to provide for my family, and I can continue to grow and advance in my career.”
Chubb is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
“I would like to thank my grandparents and Food Service Officer Eric Roberts,” Chubb said. “My grandparents helped raise me for half of my life and gave me a strong foundation to build myself on. Mr. Roberts looked out for me and had strong values in responsibility, a strong work ethic and accountability, which go hand in hand with serving in the Navy.”
Chubb offered advice to everyone making their way through life.
“Don’t ever take anything for granted,” Chubb said. “Work hard as if today were your last day, because every day is a blessing and you will never know if it’ll be your last.”
Chosin plays a crucial role in projecting power and maintaining presence for naval forces. It provides advanced air defense, maritime security, and long-range strike capabilities, often acting as the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Commander (IAMDC) for a carrier strike group. It supports global maritime security, counter-piracy operations, and theater security cooperation.
This ship is the first Navy warship named in commemoration of the First Marine Division’s breakout from an enemy encampment at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. The 1950 engagement is recognized by historians as one of the most hard-fought battles of the conflict. Chosin’s crew is made up of approximately 375 officers and enlisted personnel.
Chosin is part of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9, a multiplatform group of ships and aircraft, capable of carrying out a wide variety of missions around the globe. Chosin is currently underway in the 3rd Fleet area of responsibility, conducting operations to bolster strike group readiness and effectiveness.
