MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Petty Officer 1st Class Suzanna Schelchere Burton, from the Bronx, New York, recently received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM) while serving at Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Norfolk in Virginia.

The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal is awarded to members of the Navy and Marine Corps for meritorious service or achievement.

Schelchere Burton has served in the Navy for 15 years. Today, Schelchere Burton serves as a logistics specialist.

“This award means a lot to me,” said Schelchere Burton. “It reflects the impact I’ve been able to make on my sailors and command. For me, leadership has always been about taking care of people and mentoring junior sailors.”

Schelchere Burton received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal while serving as the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) president and Senior Sailor of the Quarter. Schelchere Burton led the command MWR representatives and executed 15 successful fundraising events, raising over $10K in support of the command fall fest and the command holiday party, directly impacting over 300 personnel, including government employees and military members across the command.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Schelchere Burton serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.

According to Navy officials, NAVSUP FLC Norfolk is the Navy’s oldest and largest fleet logistics center, providing global supply and logistics support for the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Joint and Allied forces from the Norfolk waterfront for nearly a century.
