Suffolk resident recently selected as Manager of the Quarter

By Lt. j.g. Taylor Worley, Navy Office of Community Outreach

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Jose Rodriguez, a resident of Suffolk, Virginia, serves as a government civilian with Naval Medical Readiness Logistics Command (NMRLC) in Williamsburg, and was recently selected as Manager of the Quarter.

Manager of the Quarter awards government civilians for exceptional leadership, innovation and performance exceeding standard duties.

Rodriguez graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1989 and retired from the Navy as a master chief petty officer

“I joined the United States Navy to serve my country and to better myself,” Rodriguez said. “The military gave structure, purpose and a successful career. Serving in the Navy means a lot to me. It gave me the opportunity to serve and protect my country. The Navy also forged me into a leader of giants and the protector of everything I hold dear.”

Headed by Capt. Christopher Barnes, NMRLC develops, acquires, produces, fields, sustains, and provides enduring lifecycle support of medical materiel solutions to the Fleet, Fleet Marine Force, and Joint Forces in high-end competition, crisis, and combat. At the forefront of Navy Medicine’s strategic evolution, NMRLC is well-positioned to be the Joint Force’s premier integrated medical logistics support activity.

This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber-optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Rodriguez has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“My proudest moment was on the USS Monterey when my team was ranked the number one logistics department in the Atlantic Fleet,” Rodriguez said. “The ship won the Arizona Memorial Trophy for the best performing, combat-ready crew of the Navy’s surface force.”

Grace is grateful to his wife and kids for helping make a military and civilian career possible.

“I would like to thank my wife and kids for their support and faith in me,” Rodriguez added. “I would not be here today if it weren’t for them.”
