Amery Native Wins Sailor of the Year Award

by Rick Burke, Navy Office of Community Outreach Public Affairs
BREMERTON, Wash. – USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) recently announced Aviation Support Equipment Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer Kyle Fowler, from Amery, Wisconsin, as the ship’s Sailor of the Year.
Fowler was chosen through a demanding screening process that looked at each Sailor’s involvement in the command during the last fiscal year as well as an oral board that tested Sailors’ knowledge on rules and regulations.
“We spend a lot of time being mentored by our leadership to become successful Sailors,” said Fowler. “It’s a satisfying feeling knowing that winning Sailor of the Year is a result of all the time they spend on us. Hopefully me winning, encourages other Sailors to accomplish similar goals.”
John C. Stennis, homeported in Bremerton, Washington, is pierside conducting routine training as it continues preparing for its next scheduled deployment.
