BREMERTON,
Wash. – USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) recently announced Aviation Boatswain’s Mate
(Handling) Airman Denecia Stokley, from Tracy, California, as the ship’s Blue Jacket of the Year.
Stokely was chosen through a demanding screening process
that looked at each Sailor’s involvement in the command during the last fiscal
year as well as an oral board that tested Sailors’ knowledge on rules and
regulations.
“When I heard my named called over the 1MC, it was exciting and
overwhelming at the same time,” said Stokley. “I didn’t go into the year trying
to win. I go into every year setting goals and this just happened. Hard work
really does pay off.”
John C. Stennis, homeported in Bremerton, Washington, is pierside
conducting routine training as it continues preparing for its next scheduled
deployment.
