Brooklyn native promoted in rank

By Kayla Turnbow, Navy Office of Community Outreach

(MILLINGTON, Tenn.) A 2007 Long Island City High School graduate and Brooklyn, New York, native is promoted to a U.S. Navy petty officer second class while serving at the Navy Office of Community Outreach (NAVCO).

Petty Officer 2nd Class Theodore Quintana IV, who has currently served for more than four years, is a mass communication specialist responsible for telling the Navy’s story through different types of media including photography, videography, journalism and graphic design.

“Being promoted to petty officer second class brings me great honor and humility,” said Quintana. “I am more than confident I am going to fulfill my new responsibilities.”

NAVCO connects Americans with their Navy. With most of the Navy's personnel and equipment logically concentrated on America's coasts, NAVCO oversees a number of community outreach programs designed to bring America's Navy to cities throughout the country that do not enjoy a significant Navy presence.

“My proudest accomplishment since being in the Navy is successfully completing a deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve,” said Quintana. “That deployment shaped me mentally and emotionally into a better Sailor and a stronger person.”

“Petty Officer Quintana’s promotion to E-5 is a testament to his talent and work ethic,” said Cmdr. Linda Rojas, Director, Navy Office of Community Outreach. "He represents one of the Navy’s best and brightest, and I am personally grateful for his continued service to his country and this organization. I look forward to seeing all the great things he’ll do as he takes on more responsibility as a leader and mentor.”

The Navy has allowed Quintana to experience the world while contributing to the nation’s first line of defense.

“Serving in the Navy gives me access to life experiences, lessons and honor that is unique to people who serve our great country,” said Quintana.

Quintana is the son of Theodore Quintana III and Madelyn Polanco-Barron.
