Slidell native named 2017 Junior Sailor of the Year

(BREMERTON, Wash.) - A 2010 graduate of Pope John Paul II Catholic High School and Slidell, Louisiana, native was named 2017 Junior Sailor of the Year serving at Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) Bangor, Washington.

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Hunter S. Hespen, currently serving for two years, was selected based on his exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork ethic, personal achievements and record of supporting and serving the community.

Hespen, is a master-at-arms serving as a Field Training Officer with the Security Department at NBK Bangor.

He earned a bachelor's degree in 2014 from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi and is the son of Judy and Steve K. Hespen of Carriere, Mississippi.

NBK Bangor serves as the host command for the Navy’s fleet throughout the Pacific Northwest, providing exceptional installation services, programs, and facilities to meet the needs of its hosted war-fighting commands, tenant activities, and personnel.
