Tuscaloosa Native Receives Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal

BREMERTON, Wash. - A Tuscaloosa County High School graduate and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, native receives the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, with a sliver star in lieu of his fifth award, for meritorious service while serving as department head for Naval Hospital Bremerton’s Multi-Service Unit and as assistant department head for Family Medicine department during his tour from Sept. 2015 to Dec. 2018.

Cmdr. William J. RouLaine, (right), Navy Nurse Corps, is retiring from active duty having served honorably and with the upmost integrity as a warfighter and health care member for over 22 years. He received 10 personal medals along with multiple unit commendations for his superior performance and leadership through countless challenges. The distinctive accomplishments, unrelenting perseverance and steadfast devotion to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest tradition of the United States Navy.

When asked what has been the most gratifying part of his military career, RouLaine replied, “Having the distinct privilege and honor to wear the cloth of the Navy and Army uniforms and never compromising the core values of honor, courage and commitment.”

After serving overseas in Germany and Iceland, and five different states along with multiple deployments - along with six Navy and two Army tours of duty - RouLaine, retires from active duty
having positively impacted the lives of thousands as well as mentored, developed and prepared hundreds of officers and enlisted to meet the rapid changes, expectations, and demands of the present and future providing patient centered care to warfighters, past and present, and their families.

RouLaine, a University of Alabama graduate, served for a total of 22 years and seven months with the Navy and five years with the Army National Guard.
