Virginia Beach Native Receives Sailor of the Year Award

SAN DIEGO - Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Alexandria Navarro, a 2003 Frank W. Cox High School graduate and 2010 Old Dominion University graduate and Virginia Beach, Virginia, native, received the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (NMOC) 2018 Sailor of the Year Award serving at Fleet Weather Center (FLEWEACEN) San Diego, California.

Navarro, an aerographer's mate, is responsible for collecting, recording and analyzing weather and oceanographic information and distributing this data to aircraft, ships, and shore activities.

Sailor of the Year Awards are given to sailors based on leadership abilities, professional knowledge, performance, military bearing, individual accomplishments, and extra duties they took on.

FLEWEACEN San Diego, an echelon command of NMOC, provides full-spectrum weather services to shore-based naval aviation, afloat naval units, naval installations contingency exercises and operations to facilitate risk management, resource protection, and mission success of Fleet, Regional, and Individual unit commanders.

NMOC, located at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, Mississippi, provides critical information from the ocean depths to the most distant reaches of space, meeting needs in the military, scientific, and civilian communities.
