CHARLESTON, S.C. - Wes Wills, a native of Mesquite, Texas, was named Civilian of the Year at Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic in Charleston, South Carolina.

Wills, a Texas A&M University graduate, is the integrated product team (IPT) lead for the Fixed Submarine Broadcast System (FSBS). He led efforts to restore the FSBS in Aguada, Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria, identifying and procuring $250,000 of replacement parts and returning the site to full mission capable status 134 days ahead of schedule.

Of winning the award, Wills said, "Having spent essentially my entire career supporting communications equipment for the Navy, I'm honored to be recognized with this award as it shows that I've been successful in helping sailors effectively defend our nation.”

However, he considers it more of a “team award.”

“I would not be at this point without the support and assistance from current and former co-workers and supervisors or my family,” Wills said.

NIWC Atlantic provides systems engineering and acquisition to deliver information warfare capabilities to the naval, joint and national warfighter through the acquisition, development, integration, production, test, deployment, and sustainment of interoperable C4ISR, cyber and information technology capabilities.
