Brooklyn Native Serves Aboard Floating Hospital During Humanitarian Mission

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada - Navy Personnel Specialist Seaman Apprentice Mitchell M. Julien, a native of Brooklyn, is currently serving aboard USNS Comfort (T-AH-20), a large, mobile floating medical facility that provides assistance to victims of natural disasters while also providing international humanitarian relief.

Julien, originally assigned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginiahelps service members correct pay issues. While aboard Comfort, he helps hundreds of medical staff members and patients check on and off the ship each day.

“Life is what you make it," Julien said.

During it's five-month deployment, June to November 2019, Comfort will provide medical assistance in support of regional partners and in response to the regional impacts of the Venezuela political and economic crisis. Comfort will conduct mission stops in Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Panama, Peru, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Julien has served in the Navy for nine months and is a 2016 El Dorado East Secondary graduate. He is originally from El Dorado, Saint George Trinidad and Tobago, where his mother and family still reside.
