Tucson Native Promoted to U.S. Navy Lieutenant

KITSAP, Wash. - Navy Lt. j.g. Juan B. Fimbres, a 1991 graduate of Desert View High School and native of Tucson, Arizona, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant during a ceremony with his family Sept. 5, on Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) Bangor, Washington.

Fimbres, who has 18 years of Naval service, is currently serving as an assistant installation security officer at NBK Washington.

An assistant security officer is responsible for training, coordination, and evaluation of all members, to include all Physical Security, Law Enforcement and Force Protection functions onboard Navy installations.

On Aug. 30, 2001, Fimbres began his Navy career at Naval Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduation, he completed
basic seamanship training, then reported to his first duty assignment onboard USS Coronado out of San Diego.

Fimbres advanced to boatswain's mate second class in November 2003, while also earning his Enlisted Surface Warfare qualification. In April 2004, he attended Master-at-Arms “A” (advanced) school, at Little Creek, Virginia. After graduating “A” school, he reported to his next command at Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook in Fallbrook, California. During his three-year tour, he served as Watch Commander and Training Lead Petty Officer.

In June 2007, Fimbres reported to aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. He was promoted to the rank of petty officer first class in May 2008, and fulfilled the duties as the Security Department Lead Petty Officer. During this time, Fimbres completed two west pack deployments and one Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise while also earning his Enlisted Aviation Warfare qualification.

In January 2011, Fimbres reported to his fourth assignment onboard Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego. In August 2011, he was selected to advance to the rank of chief petty officer, and served as the Operations Lead Chief Petty Officer where he led 80 military and 20 civilian Naval Security Forces police officers.

Fimbres received his commission through the Limited Duty Officer program on Sept. 1, 2015, while stationed at Naval Base Point Loma. Following his commission, he attended the Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer Indoctrination Course in Newport, Rhode Island. He arrived for duty as Platoon Commander at Marine Corps Security Force Battalion in October 2015.

Fimbres’ academic achievements include an Associate in Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Coastline Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trident University.

Fimbres’ personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Marine Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit and campaign awards, as well as the Enlisted Surface and Air Warfare Specialist Insignias.

He and his wife, Yadira, have five sons: Angel, Marco, Juan III, Maximiliano, and Danilo.

NBK Washington is the largest naval organization in Navy Region Northwest. It's mission is to serve as the host command for the Navy’s fleet throughout West Puget Sound and to provide base operating services, including support for both surface ships and submarines homeported at Bremerton and Bangor.
