BEND, Ore. - Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Beverly Taylor, a native of Erie, Pennsylvania, is one of the newest sailors joining Navy Reserve, Navy Public Affairs Support Element Pacific.

Taylor, who has served in the Navy for eight years, is an MC responsible for aligning public affairs strategies as well as producing communication campaigns to broaden public understanding of the Navy’s missions.

“Serving in the Navy means keeping your eyes open to the needs of those around you and fulfilling them the best way you can,” said Taylor. “That could mean doing your part for the big mission to the best of your ability as well as looking out for the safety and well being of those that serve with you.”

Taylor’s Navy career began a few years after graduating from Fort LeBoeuf High School, when she chose to enlist in the Navy in 2012 to learn more about the challenging field of public affairs.

“I joined the Navy because I wanted to learn a trade that could give me the skills I needed to impact the lives around me for the positive,” said Taylor. “I wanted to learn about other cultures and gain experiences I didn’t think I would get from the small city I grew up in.”

After completing boot camp and the Basic MC Course, Taylor was assigned aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) and the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) where she formed many new friendships and gained a better understanding of the Navy’s impact on the world.

“In the Navy I learned a lot about camaraderie. I got to spend long durations living and working with the same people in close quarters on the ship and built mutual trust and friendship. This taught me a lot about different cultures and lifestyles and gave me a greater understanding of people and the world,” said Taylor.

Taylor was active duty for six and a half years and has been in the Navy Reserves since 2019. She is currently attending Central Oregon Community College majoring in Aviation Science while concurrently working towards her Fixed-Wing Pilot’s license.
