BREMERTON, Wash. – Airman Bradley Mitchell, a native of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, is serving as a member of the general maintenance division aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). He reported to Vinson in March 2019 and is responsible for the repair of numerous aircraft while also maintaining the ship’s operational readiness.

“My primary job in civilian terms is to troubleshoot aircraft,” said Mitchell. “I am temporarily assigned to a division where I perform the proper up-keep of the ship’s maintenance program and damage control equipment.”

Mitchell’s Navy journey began in November 2018. He said his military lineage and patriotism is what led to him considering this particular career path.

“I joined the Navy because I saw an opportunity to do something great,” said Mitchell. “The Navy runs in my family, and I wanted to carry on the tradition.”

As Vinson undergoes an extensive maintenance period in Bremerton, Washington to make upgrades and prepare for future deployments, Mitchell has been working very hard to perform his job to the best of his abilities and stand out amongst his shipmates. In May, these efforts were recognized when he was selected for Blue Jacket of the Quarter, an award given to Sailors who go above and beyond the call of duty and demonstrate the highest standards of work ethic and military bearing.

“I’ve been getting qualified in everything that I can and using this knowledge to lead and help others do the same,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell said he has enjoyed his Navy career so far and is grateful to have the support of his community back home.

“I am very proud to call Lake Havasu City my hometown, and I can’t thank my friends and family enough for all of their support” said Mitchell.

Looking ahead on his Navy career, Mitchell hopes to become a special warfare combatant craft crewman. After completion of his military service, he aspires to further his education in aeronautical engineering.
