MILLINGTON, Tenn. - A sailor with family ties to Centennial, Colorado, serves in the U.S. Navy at Naval Medical Readiness Logistics Command (NMRLC) Yorktown, Virginia.

Seaman Apprentice Viviana Huergo Godoy, a 2016 graduate of Columbia High School in Arauca, Columbia, joined the Navy one year ago.

"I joined the Navy because it is the best in the world," said Huergo Godoy. "Beyond that, I wanted to be part of a purpose bigger than myself and serve the country that has granted me and many other immigrants opportunities and fundamental rights, such as freedom of speech, religion and safety."

NMRLC manages the warehouse and production facility that procures, produces, manages, sustains, prepositions, and deploys rapidly deployable Expeditionary Medical (EXMED) Platforms in support of operational plans, exercise support, and real-world operations.

NMRLC is at the heart of Navy Medicine’s enterprise-wide foundational change, designing and delivering agile and integrated capabilities to the Fleet and Fleet Marine Forces in the Distributed Maritime Operations. These unique capabilities will provide medical assets to Combatant Commanders in theatres around the world.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Huergo Godoy has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

"My proudest accomplishment in the Navy was qualifying and entering the world’s finest Navy," said Huergo Godoy. "Successfully graduating from boot camp marked the beginning of my new career path. It's just beginning, and there are many more accomplishments ahead."

Huergo Godoy serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

"Serving in the Navy means showing gratitude, defending the rights of this country and giving respect to our country," said Huergo Godoy. "It also provides the opportunity to learn new skills or a trade. Beyond that, serving allows you to find purpose, get physically fit and enjoy aspects to capture some of the meaningful reasons in life."

"I am a Zumba instructor, and I hope to give classes to my peers spreading joy around," added Huergo Godoy.
