Joiner graduated from Plant City High School in 2010. Additionally, Joiner earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of South Florida in 2015.

Joiner joined the Navy one year ago. Today, Joiner serves as a lab officer.

“I am a medical laboratory scientist by trade,” said Joiner. “I joined the Navy because I wanted to have the opportunities and experiences that I would otherwise never get to do in a general hospital setting or in the civilian sector overall. I also wanted to further my education and be both a leader and mentor to the next generation of laboratory techs."

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Plant City.

“I was always taught to give it my best, no matter how difficult the task may be,” said Joiner. "People from Plant City give it their all and don’t lose hope in the face of adversity. I carry the spirit of Plant City every day with me."

According to Navy officials, NMRTC’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high-quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMRTC serves as the single point of contact in support of installation and operational commanders, providing medical information, support and over medical cognizance of the active duty and reserve force.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Joiner serves a Navy that operates forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Joiner has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“I am most proud of earning my commission in the Navy,” said Joiner. "It was a very competitive selection process, and the Navy has invested a lot of time, effort and trust in me to get the mission accomplished. I consider it the highest honor and privilege to wear this uniform every single day and I will be the best laboratory officer I can be."

Joiner can take pride in serving America through military service.

“Serving in the Navy personally gives me a sense of accomplishment,” said Joiner. "I am a part of a team and I am here to support the warfighter. I am proud to be a United States sailor."

Joiner is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I would like to thank my parents, Alan and Jenny, and my twin brother, Kody, for supporting my decision to join the Navy,” added Joiner. "I won’t be home as much and I may miss major life events, but their support carries me through any challenges I face. I take to heart something my father told me, ‘Everything is fine here at home, don’t worry about us, now go save the world.’”
