Pohla graduated from Druid Hills High School in 2019.

Pohla joined the Navy two years ago. Today, Pohla serves as an aviation machinist's mate.

“I joined the Navy to have an opportunity to become a better leader,” said Pohla. "I wanted to experience what it is like being on a boat while also having the chance to learn more about aircraft."

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Lithonia.

“You have to learn how to do things correctly,” said Pohla. "Doing things the right way gives you opportunities that may not normally exist. It also gives people who you are just meeting the best impression of yourself."

According to Navy officials, members of VRM-30 fly and maintain the CMV-22B Osprey, a vertical takeoff and landing tilt-rotor aircraft. VRM aircraft have increased operational range, faster cargo loading and unloading, increased survivability and enhanced communications compared to the C-2A Greyhound.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Pohla serves a Navy that operates forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Pohla has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“My proudest accomplishment in the Navy is completing a phase with an aircraft,” said Pohla. "Seeing an aircraft fly and be able to complete its mission after completing yours is incredible."

Pohla can take pride in serving America through military service.

“Serving in the Navy means having more expectations for yourself,” said Pohla. "You can't be in the Navy and not have higher expectations for yourself."

Pohla is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I would like to give a shout-out to my family,” added Pohla. "I appreciate the motivation they have given me to continue my journey."

“I like to embrace the philosophy 'live, laugh and learn,' but first you must learn,” said Pohla.
