GULFPORT, Miss. - Since 1942, sailors assigned to the U.S. Navy’s Construction Force have been building and fighting around the world. Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport, located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, is home to the Atlantic Fleet “Seabees” (a play on the C and B initials).

Petty Officer 1st Class Brent Bishop, a native of Grand Junction, Colorado, currently serves with NCBC Gulfport as a master-at-arms serving with more than 10,000 service members, civilian personnel, veterans and family members associated with the installation.

Whether serving in the construction force or in a supporting role, the sailors of NCBC Gulfport personify the “Can-Do” motto of Seabees and are ready to deploy and serve globally.

As a master-at-arms, Bishop is a member of the NCBC Gulfport’s Navy Security Force (NSF). NSF processes more than 1 million access control transactions and conducts more than 50 security drills each year to keep the installation’s personnel and families safe.

Bishop, who graduated from R-5 High School in 2001, joined the Navy 21 years ago. Bishop’s parents, Laura and Denny Daily, both reside in Grand Junction.

“My grandfather served in the U.S. Navy for four years and I wanted to be in the same branch while continuing the family tradition,” said Bishop.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Grand Junction.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Bishop serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Bishop has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“My proudest accomplishment is being advanced to master-at-arms first class,” said Bishop. “This allows me to now serve for 22 years total.”

Bishop can take pride in serving America through military service.

“Serving in the Navy has given me the opportunity to serve our country,” added Bishop. “It makes me so proud because I get to represent the United States of America. I can support and give back to all those who have served before me.”
