Millington, Tenn. - Petty Officer 1st Class Dong Lee, a native of Houston, Tx, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to Naval Talent Acquisition Group Golden Gate.

Lee graduated from Elsik High School in 2018.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Houston.

“During my time in the Navy, the lessons I learned from my hometown have been invaluable in shaping my experiences,” said Lee. "Growing up in a diverse community taught me the importance of understanding and respecting different perspectives and backgrounds. This appreciation for diversity has enabled me to work effectively with individuals from various cultures and walks of life. The values of teamwork, resilience, and inclusivity instilled in me by my hometown have fostered camaraderie and collaboration among my fellow service members. These lessons have enriched my Navy experience and reinforced my commitment to building bridges and promoting unity in any environment."

Lee joined the Navy nine years ago. Today, Lee serves as a gas turbine systems technician.

“I joined the Navy to enhance my personal development and pave the way for a successful future after university,” said Lee. "Serving in the Navy has been a longstanding aspiration. Although I initially agreed with my parents to enlist right after high school, they encouraged me to pursue a bachelor's degree first, believing it would gain the family's approval. After careful reflection, I realized my true passion lies in serving in the Navy, and I am fully committed to fulfilling that ambition."

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Lee serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation's prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”

Lee has many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“Throughout my Navy service, I have been honored with numerous awards recognizing my contributions and dedication,” said Lee. "However, my proudest moments are not marked by accolades but by witnessing the transformative impact the Navy has had on individuals' lives. Seeing them overcome significant hardships and embrace the opportunities provided by the Navy has been incredibly rewarding, especially for those I personally guided to join."

Lee can take pride in serving America through military service.

“Serving in the Navy holds profound significance for me as it embodies a commitment to duty, honor, and sacrifice,” said Lee. "It represents an opportunity to contribute to the safety and security of my country while being part of a rich tradition of service spanning generations."

Lee is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.
