MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Petty Officer 1st Class Gabriel Alcaraz, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, was recently named 2024 Sailor of the Year (SOY) for Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Great Lakes.
Alcaraz, a 2004 graduate of Shepherds College, joined the Navy 14 years ago. Additionally, Alcaraz earned a master's degree from Grand Canyon Theological Seminary.
SOY award is a prestigious honor given to enlisted sailors in the E-6 pay grade who demonstrate sustained superior performance, exceptional leadership, and unwavering professionalism.
"Being awarded as the Sailor of the Year means a lot to me because I strongly believe in the saying 'lead by example,"' said Alcaraz. "This would help me continue to motivate my fellow sailors to aim high and work hard because their efforts and dedication would pay off. It was more than an award for me, it was a milestone in my career that encouraged me to aim higher. It is a symbol of teamwork with my fellow sailors and my command's leadership."
